SPOTLIGHT THE ARTS PRESENTS ITS 4TH ANNUAL SUMMER CABARET!
FASCINATING RYTHM: THE MUSIC OF GEORGE AND IRA GERSHWIN
Friday July 27 & Saturday July 28 at 8:00 PM
Calabasas Library Amphitheatre
200 Civic Center Way, Calabasas, CA 91302.
Spotlight the Arts presents our fourth annual summer cabaret:
“Fascinating Rhythm: The Music of George and Ira Gershwin.”
Two Nights Only, Friday July 27th and Saturday July 28th at 8 pm.
This delightful show will feature a collage of Gershwin songs from movie and Broadway classics such as
Strike Up The Band,
An American in Paris, and
Shall We Dance including dynamic presentations of “I’ve Got Rhythm”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and “Nice Work, If You Can Get It”.
George Gershwin, with his brother Ira, was among the most successful musical talents of the 1930's, with their songs transcending their time, sounding as fresh and exciting now as it was then. George died at the peak of his career, at the age of 38, but the brilliance of his compositions lives on, inspiring generation after generation. This Cabaret will showcase his best songs.
All of the talented local performers of the Cabaret attend prestigious conservatories and universities. Director/performer Taylor Shubert and performers Paige Berkovitz and Rachel Hirschfield are students at
Boston Conservatory, while performer Jenny Lester attends
Point Park University. Also performing in the show will be Dylan Shubert,"who studies at the world renowned
College-Conservatory of Music"
Neil Douglas Reilly will be directing the select group of musicians and providing piano accompaniment.
Mr. Reilly’s credits include orchestrating the
Broadway revival of “Porgy and Bess” as an assistant to William David Brohn and Christopher Jahnke. His orchestrations were heard at the
New York Pops Birthday Gala in April of this year.
The venue is The Calabasas Amphitheater, located behind the Calabasas Library, 200 Civic Center Way, Calabasas, CA 91302.
